Vietnam Airlines Cancellation Policy

Vietnam Airlines cancellation policy has become more flexible in response to COVID-19. If you don’t plan to take a flight, you must cancel it at least 3 hours before the departure time to avoid paying a No-Show fee. This applies to all flights but excludes domestic Economy Super Lite fares within Vietnam, which are non-cancellable. Depending on the fare conditions of your ticket, you can either cancel and refund your ticket or cancel it to travel later. 

Key Points to Remember

  • If your flight is cancelled or delayed, or if you are denied boarding, the airline will:
    • Offer you an alternative flight free of charge, or
    • Modify your itinerary free of charge if the flight delay exceeds 2 hours, or
    • Provide a full refund if the flight delay exceeds 5 hours 
  • You can cancel your flight by phone, online through VietnamAirlines.com/mobile app if you purchased your ticket directly from Vietnam Airlines website/mobile app, or through the travel agent/office you purchased your ticket from. 
  • To avoid a No-Show, you must cancel your flight ticket at least 3 hours before departure. 
  • Ancillaries are non-changeable and non-refundable unless your flight is cancelled, delayed, or rescheduled.  
  • Only Economy Super Lite (A-/G-/P-) fares cannot be cancelled on domestic flights within Vietnam—all other fares can be cancelled, subject to the applicable cancellation fee.
  • Non-refundable tickets cannot be rebooked or refunded after cancellation. 
  • If you’ve purchased PVI travel insurance, you must contact the company by email via bh.support@pvi.com.vn for flight refunds (subject to the terms and conditions of your insurance package). 
  • If you book a ticket to/from the United States at least 7 days before departure, you can cancel it free of charge within 24 hours of booking. This applies to all fare types, incl. non-refundable fares, as long as you meet all these conditions. This is also known as the 24-hour cancellation policy.

Cancellation Policy by Flight Route

Vietnam Airlines cancellation policy and fees vary by route and fare type, as indicated below. 

  1. Cancellation Policy—Flights departing from Vietnam
    • Flights Departing from Vietnam to Europe/Australia
      • Business Flex (J/C) fares can be cancelled free of charge before departure.
      • Business Classic (D/I) fares can be cancelled for a cancellation fee of USD 50.
      • For itineraries including domestic sectors in France (operated by SNCF French railways):
        • Business Flex (J/C) fares can be cancelled free of charge at least 72 hours before departure of the SNCF French railway sector and for a cancellation fee of USD 185 within 72 hours of departure.
        • Business Classic (D/I) fares can be cancelled for a cancellation fee of USD 185 at least 72 hours before departure and for USD 370 within 72 hours of departure.
      • For itineraries including domestic sectors in Germany operated by DB railways bearing the marketing code W2:
        • Business Flex (J/C) fares can be cancelled free of charge at least 48 hours before departure and for a cancellation fee of USD 150 within 48 hours of departure or on/after departure.
        • Business Classic (D/I) fares can be cancelled for a cancellation fee of USD 100 at least 48 hours before departure and for USD 200 within 48 hours of departure or on/after departure.
      • Premium Economy Flex (W) fares can be cancelled free of charge before departure.
      • Premium Economy Classic ((Z/U) fares can be cancelled for a cancellation fee of USD 50 before departure.
      • For itineraries including domestic sectors in France operated by SNCF French railways:
        • Premium Economy Flex (W) fares can be cancelled free of charge at least 72 hours before departure of the SNCF French railway sector and for a cancellation fee of USD 115 within 72 hours of departure (or later) of the SNCF railway sector.
        • Premium Economy Classic (Z/U) fares can be cancelled for a cancellation fee of USD 185 at least 72 hours before departure of the SNCF railway sector and for USD 300 within 72 hours of departure (or later) of the SNCF railway sector.
      • For itineraries including domestic sectors in Germany operated by DB railways bearing the marketing code W2:
        • Premium Economy Flex (W) fares can be cancelled free of charge at least 48 hours before departure but will incur a cancellation fee of USD 150 within 48 hours of departure of the DB sector within Germany.
        • Premium Economy Classic (Z/U) fares can be cancelled for a cancellation fee of USD 150 at least 48 hours before departure and for USD 200 within 48 hours of departure or on/after departure.
      • Economy Flex (Y/M/B/S) fares can be cancelled subject to a cancellation fee of USD 20 before the flight date and USD 50 on or after the flight date. 
      • Economy Classic (H/K/L/Q/N/R) fares can be cancelled subject to a cancellation fee of USD 50 before the flight date and USD 100 on or after the flight date. 
      • Economy Lite (T/A/E) fares can be cancelled for USD 100 before the flight date and USD 250 on or after the flight date.
      • Economy Super Lite (G/P) fares can be cancelled for USD 250 before the flight date.
      • For itineraries including domestic sectors in France operated by SNCF French railways:
        • Economy Flex (Y/M/B/S) fares can be cancelled by paying a cancellation fee of USD 95 at least 72 hours before departure from the SNCF French railway sector and USD 115 within 72 hours of departure or later. 
        • Economy Classic (H/K/L/Q/N/R) fares can be cancelled by paying a cancellation fee of USD 125 at least 72 hours before departure from the SNCF French railway sector and USD 300 within 72 hours of departure or later. 
        • Economy Lite (T/A/E) fares can be cancelled subject to a cancellation fee of USD 380 at least 72 hours before departure from the SNCF French railway sector and USD 500 within 72 hours of departure or later. 
        • Economy Super Lite (G/P) fares can be cancelled for USD 380 at least 72 hours before departure from the SNCF French railway sector and for USD 500 within 72 hours of departure or later. 
      • For itineraries including domestic sectors in Germany operated by DB railways with the marketing code W2:
        • Economy Flex (Y/M/B/S) fares can be cancelled for USD 100 at least 48 hours before departure from the DB railway sector in Germany and for USD 150 within 48 hours of departure or later. 
        • Economy Classic (H/K/L/Q/N/R) fares can be cancelled for USD 150 at least 48 hours before departure from the DB railway sector in Germany and for USD 200 within 48 hours of departure or later. 
        • Economy Lite (T/A/E) fares can be cancelled for USD 150 at least 48 hours before departure from the DB railway sector in Germany and for USD 350 within 48 hours of departure or later. 
        • Economy Super Lite (G/P) fares can be cancelled for USD 350 at least 48 hours before departure from the DB railway sector in Germany and for USD 350 within 48 hours of departure or later. 
  • Flights Departing from Vietnam to Southeast Asia
    • Business Flex (J-/C-) fares can be cancelled free of charge before departure.
    • Business Classic (D-/I-) fares can be cancelled for USD 20 before departure.
    • Premium Economy Flex (W-) fares can be cancelled free of charge before departure.
    • Premium Economy Classic (Z-/U-) fares can be cancelled by paying a cancellation fee of USD 20 before departure.
    • Economy Flex (Y-/M-/B-/S-) fares can be cancelled for USD 20.
    • Economy Classic (H-/K-/L-/Q-/N-/R-) fares can be cancelled for USD 20 before the flight date and for USD 50 on/after the flight date. 
    • Economy Lite (T/A/E) fares can be cancelled for USD 50 before the flight date and for USD 80 on/after the flight date.
    • Economy Super Lite (G/P) fares can be cancelled for USD 80.
  • Flights Departing from Vietnam to the United States
    (tickets issued on/after May 9, 2022)
    • Business Flex (J/C) fares can be cancelled free of charge.
    • Business Classic (D/I) fares can be cancelled for USD 20.
    • Premium Economy Flex (W-) fares can be cancelled free of charge before departure.
    • Premium Economy Classic ((Z-/U-) fares can be cancelled for USD 20 before the flight date.
    • Economy Flex (Y/M/B/S) fares can be cancelled for free before the flight date and USD 20 on/after the flight date.
    • Economy Classic (H/K/L/Q/N/R) fares can be cancelled for USD 20 before the flight date and for USD 50 on/after the flight date. 
    • Economy Lite (T/A/E) fares can be cancelled for USD 50 before the flight date and for USD 80 on/after the flight date.
    • Economy Super Lite (G/P) fares can be cancelled for USD 80.

Exception. Tickets purchased to or from the United States at least 7 days before departure can be cancelled free of charge within 24 hours of booking. Also known as the 24-hour cancellation policy, this policy applies to all fare types—incl. non-refundable fares.

  • Flights Departing from Vietnam to Northeast Asia
    • Business Flex (J-/C-) fares can be cancelled free of charge.
    • Business Classic (D-/I-) fares can be cancelled for USD 20.
    • Premium Economy Flex (W-) fares can be cancelled free of charge.
    • Premium Economy Classic ((Z-/U-) fares can be cancelled for USD 20.
    • Economy Flex (Y-/M-/B-/S-) fares can be cancelled for USD 20.
    • Economy Classic (H-/K-/L-/Q-/N-/R-) fares can be cancelled for USD 20 before the flight date and for USD 50 on/after the flight date. 
    • Economy Lite (T/A/E) fares can be cancelled for USD 50 before the flight date and for USD 80 on/after the flight date.
    • Economy Super Lite (G/P) fares can be cancelled for USD 80.

Note. You will not be charged any penalty/fee on a domestic or international flight departing from Vietnam in the following cases: 

  • Your confirmed flight is delayed by more than 2 hours. 
  • Your confirmed flight departs earlier than scheduled. 
  • You are denied boarding on a confirmed flight.

      • Economy Flex (Y-/M-/B-/S-) fares can be cancelled for a cancellation fee of USD 20/THB660/SGD30/INR1500/MYR85/IDR295000/AED80.

      • Economy Lite (T/A/E) fares will incur a cancellation fee of USD 50/SGD70/MYR215/THB1700/AED190/INR3600/IDR730000 before the flight date and USD80/THB2700/SGD115/MYR350/INR5700/AED300/IDR1250000 on/after the flight date.
      • Economy Super Lite (G/P) fares will incur a cancellation fee of USD80/THB2700/SGD115/MYR350/INR5700/AED300/IDR1250000.
    • Flights Departing from Korea
      • Business Flex (J-/C-) fares can be cancelled free of charge.
      • Business Classic (D-/I-) fares can be cancelled for KRW30000.
      • Premium Economy Flex (W-) fares can be cancelled free of charge.
      • Premium Economy Classic ((Z-/U-) fares can be cancelled for KRW30000. 
      • Economy Flex (Y-/M-/B-/S-) fares can be cancelled for KRW30000. 
      • Economy Classic (H-/K-/L-/Q-/N-/R-) fares can be cancelled for KRW30000 before the flight date and for KRW60000 on/after the flight date. 
      • Economy Lite (T/A/E) fares can be cancelled for KRW60000 before the flight date and for KRW90000 on/after the flight date.
      • Economy Super Lite (G/P) fares can be cancelled for KRW90000.
  • Flights Departing from Northeast Asia
    • Business Flex (J-/C-) fares can be cancelled free of charge.
    • Business Classic (D-/I-) fares can be cancelled for CNY320/HKD360/MOP370.
    • Premium Economy Flex (W-) fares can be cancelled free of charge.

  • Flights Departing from Australia to Vietnam
    (tickets issued on/after May 9, 2022)
    • Business Flex (J-/C-) fares can be cancelled free of charge.
    • Business Classic (D-/I-) fares can be cancelled for AUD50/NZD50.
    • Premium Economy Flex (W-) fares can be cancelled free of charge.
    • Premium Economy Classic ((Z-/U-) fares can be cancelled for AUD50/NZD50. 
    • Economy Flex (Y-/M-/B-/S-) fares can be cancelled for AUD50/NZD50.

    • Premium Economy Flex (W-) fares can be cancelled for USD100/CAD150 before the flight date and for USD150/CAD200 after the flight date.
    • Premium Economy Classic ((Z/U) fares can be cancelled for USD150/CAD200. 
    • Economy Flex (Y/M/B/S) fares can be cancelled for USD100/CAD150. 
    • Economy Classic (H/K//Q/N/) fares can be cancelled for USD100/CAD150 before the flight date and for USD150/CAD200 after the flight date.
    • Economy Lite (T/A/E) fares can be cancelled for USD150/CAD200 before the flight date and for USD200/CAD250 on/after the flight date.
    • Economy Super Lite (G/P) fares can be cancelled for USD200/CAD250.
  • Flights Departing from Europe
    • Business Flex (J/C) fares can be cancelled free of charge.

    • Economy Classic (H-/K-/L-) fares can be cancelled for EUR50 before departure and for EUR75 on/after the departure date. 
    • Economy Lite (T-/A-/E-) fares can be cancelled for EUR50 before the departure date and for EUR150 on/after the departure date—but free of charge if issued on/before June 30, 2022.
    • Economy Super Lite (G-/P-) fares can be cancelled for EUR150—but free of charge if issued on/before June 30, 2022.

    (applies to tickets issued on/after December 8, 2021)
    • Business Flex (J-/C-) fares can be cancelled for VND 500,000. 
    • Business Classic (D-/I-) fares can also be cancelled for VND 500,000.
    • Premium Economy Flex (W-) fares can be cancelled for VND 500,000. 
    • Premium Economy Classic ((Z-/U-) fares can also be cancelled for VND 500,000. 
    • Economy Flex (Y-/M-/B-) fares can be cancelled for VND 500,000. 
    • Economy Classic (S-/H-/K-/L-) fares can be cancelled for VND 500,000.
    • Economy Lite (Q-/N-/R-/T-/E-) fares can be cancelled for VND 500,000.
    • Economy Super Lite (A-/G-/P-) fares cannot be cancelled.

How to Cancel Your Flight 

You can cancel your Vietnam Airlines flight in any of the following ways: 

  • By phone
  • Online via VietnamAirlines.com/mobile app if you purchased your ticket directly from the website/mobile app.
  • Through the travel agent you purchased your ticket from. 

Note. After cancelling your ticket, you can either request a refund or ask for a Travel Voucher of equivalent value (valid for 1 year from the date of request). 

How to Cancel Your Ticket Online 

You can cancel your ticket online if you purchased your ticket directly from Vietnam Airlines website or mobile app, as explained below.

  1. Go to VietnamAirlines.com
  2. Click on the Manage Booking tab
  3. Select Cancel Segments (as shown below)
         Now enter your:
    1. VN Reservation Code (PNR)
    2. Last name
    3. Email address
  4. Click on the Continue button 
  5. Select the passenger names and flight segments you want to cancel
  6. Follow the online prompts to confirm the cancellation

Your flight will be cancelled for the passengers and segments selected by you and you will receive a confirmation mail for the cancellation.

Note. You must cancel your reservation at least 3 hours before departure to avoid being charged a No-Show fee. 

How to Apply for Refund

Before applying for a refund, you must cancel your flight After you’ve cancelled your flight, you can apply for a refund:

  • By phone (the Vietnam Airlines office in your city, or the office that issued your ticket). 
  • Online via VietnamAirlines.com/mobile app if you purchased your ticket directly from the website/mobile app. Alternatively, you can send a request to Vietnam Airlines via onlinesupport@vietnamairlines.com. 
  • Through the travel agent you purchased your ticket from. 

Online Refund

To apply for a refund online, follow the steps below:

  1. Visit VietnamAirlines.com
  2. Click on Manage Booking and then on the Refund option (as shown above)
  1. Choose how you want the refund:
    1. By Send refund request (opens by default)
    2. By Auto refund to Travel Voucher
    3. By Auto refund to account
  2. Enter the required details 
  3. Click on the Refund button

You will receive the refund (as indicated) after the applicable cancellation/refund fee (if any) is deducted from the total amount paid by you.
