What are my check-in options at Lufthansa?
Passengers flying on Lufthansa can choose from several check-in options that are offered by the airline:
- Automated check-in
- Online/web check-in
- Mobile app check-in

Check-in Deadlines at Lufthansa
- Lufthansa Automated Check-in (Starting and Closing Time)
The automated check-in service checks you in automatically. Your boarding pass is sent by text or email directly to your mobile phone—from about 23 hours before your flight’s departure.
- If you have a Lufthansa iD profile or are a Miles & More customer, the automated check-in is already enabled for you:
- On flights in the Schengen area
- For flights booked up to 24 hours before departure (in which case your boarding pass will be sent to you 23 hours before your flight’s departure via email or by text to the mobile number you have entered in your profile.
- All self-services will also be available to you—such as:
- Changing your seat
- Home-printed bag tags
- Canceling your check-in
- Adding eJournals
- Adding frequent flyer card
- Adding travel companions
- The automated check-in option can be disabled through your customer profile whenever you wish.
- You cannot use automated check-in for flights that do not operate completely in the Schengen Area.
- Lufthansa Online Check-in Time
- Online check-in starts 23 hours before departure.

Remember
Late-night check-in is not available for:
- Economy Class passengers (who should check in online or via the mobile app).
- Flights departing from the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Lufthansa Online Check-in

Here’s how you can do a web check-in:
- Go to Lufthansa.com
- Click on Check-in (lower part of your screen)
(To log in from your Lufthansa iD or Miles & More account, click on the link that says ‘Log in for check-in’, and follow the on-screen prompts to check in) - Enter your:
- First name
- Last name
- Your booking code or ticket number
- Hit the Check-in button
- Follow the prompts to check in
You can also click on the link that says Further check-in options to check in with your:
- Booking reference or ticket number
- Frequent Flyer card
- Tour operator trip without booking code
When you’re checking in, you will also be able to:
- Select a seat for yourself
- Print your boarding pass
- Have your boarding pass sent to your mobile phone, home, or office
- Add your frequent flyer number
Passengers Not Eligible for Online Check-in
Passengers with the following types of reservations are not eligible for online check-in—and must check in physically at the airport ticket counter:
- Unaccompanied minors
- Passengers traveling on age-qualifying fares
- Passengers requiring special assistance
- Passengers departing from:
- Albania
- Cyprus

Mobile App Check-in
You can check in with Lufthansa’s mobile app by logging in, entering your flight details, and confirming your check-in. Once you check in, you will receive your electronic boarding pass.
Lufthansa’s mobile app not only lets you check in for your flight and download your boarding pass, but also :

Lufthansa Self-Service Kiosk Check-in at the Airport
To check in at an airport self-service bag kiosk:
- You must possess your boarding pass (issued on your smartphone, online, or at a check-in machine)
- You must have your valid travel documents
Note. If you’re traveling with excess or special baggage, you will need to contact a staff member at a bag drop-off counter.

- Passengers flying with a pet
- People who have purchased an age-qualifying fare

Lufthansa Quick Boarding Gates
Lufthansa’s Quick Boarding Turnstiles
You can use Lufthansa’s Quick Boarding turnstiles at select gates in Munich, Frankfurt, and several other airports across the world. These gates allow you to board your aircraft faster and more conveniently.
How Quick Boarding Works
To avail of quick boarding:
- Place your boarding pass on the scanner, keeping the barcode face down.
- You will let through after a short verification process.
If any last-minute changes have been made, such as a change of seat, etc., the machine will print out of a new coupon with the updated information.
