- Restricted food items include strong-smelling food items and durians. If you plan to carry such items on board, you will need to check with your local Singapore Airlines office before flying.
Non-Standard Baggage
If you plan to carry large or heavy items—such as oversized sporting or musical equipment—some restrictions may apply. For information and assistance, contact Singapore Airlines Cargo.
Singapore Airlines Sporting Equipment Policy
Most sporting equipment will count toward your free baggage allowance. This typically covers:
- Bicycles
- Canoes
- Golf clubs
- Scuba diving apparel

When traveling from/to the United States, most sports equipment will be counted as a single piece of baggage, except canoes (2 pieces). If you’re traveling from/to Canada, you will be charged per the baggage allowance applicable to your journey.
Note. Make sure your checked sports baggage does not exceed 70lb/32kg. Items weighing more may have to be repacked or sent as cargo. If you plan to carry sporting equipment exceeding 70lb/32kg, contact your local Singapore Airlines Cargo office before traveling.
Additional baggage charges will apply if you exceed your baggage allowance. For details, refer to the section titled Excess Baggage Charges.

What to Do If Your Baggage is Delayed or Damaged
Delayed Baggage
If your checked baggage has been delayed, you must lodge a report online or at the Lost and Found Office at the arrival airport. After you file your report, you will be given a 10-character File Reference Number that you can use for future correspondence.
You can trace your baggage online via the baggage portal and receive email updates for up to 7 days.
If your missing baggage cannot be located after 7 days
- File a claim with your local Lost and Found Office, or
- File a claim with your travel insurance company
Damaged Baggage
If you find that your checked baggage has arrived in a damaged condition, report it immediately to the Singapore Airlines’ staff at the airport. The staff will assess the damage, create a report, and pay for the damage if it qualifies for compensation.
Singapore Airlines will not compensate you for minor damages such as dirt marks, cuts, scuffs, dents, or loss of or damage to handles, wheels, straps, pockets, and other protruding parts. It will also not cover damage to improperly packed articles or items contained in overstuffed bags.
Singapore Airlines Liability for Lost and Damaged Bags
SQ’s liability for delayed, lost, or damaged checked luggage is limited to SDR 17 per kg per passenger or SDR 1,288 per passenger. This does not include damage to assistive devices, mobility aids, and wheelchairs, which typically qualify for higher compensation.
Singapore Airlines Liability for Assistive Devices, Mobility Aids, Mobility Aids, and Wheelchairs
If your mobility aid, assistive device, or wheelchair is damaged by Singapore Airlines, the criteria for calculating the loss on trips to/from the United States will be per the provisions of the U.S. Department of Transportation, as explained below.
- On domestic routes, you will be fully compensated for the loss or damage—regardless of any rule that limits the liability for lost or damaged baggage.
- On international flights, you will be compensated per the provisions of the Montreal Convention for such items. If the Montreal Convention does not apply for some reason, the older Warsaw Convention treaty may apply.
