ITA cancellation policy allows you to cancel and refund your flight fully or partially, depending on the circumstances. If your flight is cancelled or delayed by more than 5 hours, you can either change your itinerary or refund your ticket without penalty. And if a flight departing from an airport in the EU is cancelled or delayed by 3 hours or more due to reasons within ITA’s control, you are entitled to compensation, depending on your flight distance and the length of the delay.

The major highlights of ITA Airways cancellation policy are as follows:

  • If your flight is cancelled or delayed by at least 5 hours, you have the option to:
    • Rebook, reroute, or change your itinerary to reach your original destination or return to the point of origin of your trip on a suitable flight no later than 2 weeks before or after the cancelled or delayed flight’s date. If you’re changing your reservation within 2 weeks after the cancelled flight’s date and the same class of travel is not available, your fare may be repriced.
      or
    • Change your destination (once only) within 1 month of the new flight’s schedule. Only domestic-to-domestic and international-to-international destination changes are permitted and may include fare repricing if the same travel class is not available (no refund will be provided if the new fare is lower).

    • Request ITA Airways to extend your travel date (incl. that of any travel companions on your booking, incl. a pet and/or ancillary services already booked) by no more than 3 months from your medical certificate’s date. • If a ticket is purchased by someone other than the ticket holder, ITA will refund the ticket to that person only upon the presentation of proper documentation.

  • For unused tickets (incl. non-refundable tickets purchased through promotional offers), the taxes and charges levied by government authorities will be refunded as permitted under the law.
  • For partially used tickets, the refund amount will be in proportion to the taxes and charges on the non-flown portion of the flight segment.
  • Tickets issued by ITA Airways or any of its authorized agencies can be refunded up to 30 days after the expiration date unless any restriction is placed by the fare rules of your ticket.
  • If you purchased your ticket through an authorized agent, the refund will be made by the authorized agent using the same currency and method of payment that was used for purchasing the ticket.

Compensation for Cancelled Flights

If your flight (departing from an airport in the EU) is cancelled or delayed by more than 3 hours, you are entitled to choose any one of the following options:

Cancelled Flights

  2. Take the next available flight to your destination at no additional cost, or
  3. Take another convenient flight at a later date when available (at no additional cost), provided it’s under comparable carriage conditions
