Iberia Airlines Cancellation Policy

The Iberia Airlines cancellation policy states that you can cancel your flight and get a refund under the following conditions: 

  • You cancelled your Iberia flight to/from the United States within 24 hours of purchasing your ticket (also known as Iberia Airlines’ 24-hour cancellation policy).
  • Your Iberia flight was cancelled and you decided not to catch the alternative flight.
  • Your Iberia flight is delayed by 5 hours or more.

Iberia Cancellation Policy Due to Rerouting of Flights 

Iberia Airlines cancellation policy further states that you can request a refund and receive compensation if your flight is suddenly cancelled or delayed under certain situations*, as explained below. 

The compensation will be:

  • EUR 125 if your flight distance is up to 1,500 km and the arrival time of the rerouted flight is up to 2 hours after the arrival time of the originally scheduled flight, and EUR 250 if the delay exceeds 2 hours.
  • EUR 200 if your flight is an intra-Community flight exceeding 1,500 km and the arrival time of the rerouted flight is up to 3 hours after the arrival time of the originally scheduled flight. 
  • EUR 200 if your flight distance is 1,500 – 3,500 km and the arrival time of the rerouted flight is up to 3 hours after the arrival time of the originally scheduled flight, and EUR 400 if the delay in arrival time is more than 3 hours.
  • EUR 300 for all flights not included above if the rerouted flight has an arrival time of up to 4 hours after the arrival time of the originally scheduled flight; or EUR 600 ¡f the delay exceeds 4 hours.

How to Receive Compensation from Iberia Airlines

Per Iberia cancellation policy, you can seek compensation by contacting the Booking Office, travel agent, or point of sale from where you purchased your ticket. 

You can ask to receive the compensation by cash, bank check, electronic bank transfer, or as travel vouchers. If you opt for a travel voucher, you can use it later to buy tickets or exchange it for cash. 

The conditions for cancelling your Iberia Airlines flight booking will be mentioned in your booking confirmation e-mail. You can also access them online via ‘Booking management.

* Per Iberia cancellation policy, you will not qualify for compensation in the following situations:

  1. You were informed of your flight’s cancellation between 14 – 7 days before the scheduled departure date and were offered a rerouted flight that allows you to catch your flight up to 2 hours before the original departure time and arrive at your final destination not more than 4 hours after the original arrival time.
  2. You were informed of the cancellation less than 7 days before the scheduled departure date and were offered a rerouted flight that allows you to catch your flight up to 1 hour before the original departure and arrive at your final destination less than 2 hours after the original arrival time.

Iberia Airlines Cancellation Assistance 

Per Iberia avios cancellation policy, if your flight was cancelled or rerouted per the above-mentioned conditions, you can: 

  • Reroute your flight at your convenience (subject to seat availability). 
  • Cancel your flight and apply for reimbursement within 7 days: 
    • For the part/parts of the journey, you did not make.
    • For the part/parts of the journey you made if the flight no longer serves your purpose. 
    • For a return flight to your first departure point if the flight no longer serves your purpose. 

Iberia Airlines flight cancellation policy also states that if your flight is suddenly delayed, you will be offered the following free of charge

  • Meals and refreshments depending on your waiting time.

Iberia Airlines’ post-COVID policies allow you to rebook your flight free of charge or claim a refund in the form of a voucher if your flight was affected by any of the following circumstances less than 15 days before your flight’s departure:

  1. New restrictions for entry have been imposed at your destination.
  2. The introduction of compulsory lockdown or quarantine measures at your destination that prevents you from travelling.

For how long is my voucher valid?

  • If you requested your voucher before May 28, 2020, your voucher is valid for use up to June 30 for travel up to September 30, 2021.
  • If you requested your voucher between May 29 May and November 3, 2020, your voucher is valid for use and travel up to December 31, 2021.
  • If you requested your voucher after November 4, 2020, your voucher is valid for use and travel till 14 months after your date of request. 

To be eligible to use your voucher, at least one of the flights in your itinerary must be operated by Iberia Airlines, Air Nostrum, or Iberia Express.

No, you can use your voucher only to book your flight online. 

Can I get a voucher for my flight + hotel or flight + car holiday package on Iberia?
