AirAsia Flight Change Rules

AirAsia’s change flight date charges for domestic flights within India are INR 3,000 per passenger per journey for any changes made between 3 days to 4 hours before departure, and INR 2,500 per passenger per journey for changes made at least 4 days before departure.

AirAsia’s change flight date charges for international flights with the carrier code AK are USD 42 (MYR 120/INR 1,996) per passenger per journey, as long as you make the changes at least 48 hours before departure. 

AirAsia’s change flight fee for flights with the carrier code FD (Thailand) is THB 802.5 per passenger per journey for domestic flights within Thailand, and THB 1,320/USD 42 per passenger per journey for international flights. 

The AirAsia flight date change fee (per passenger per journey) for flights with the carrier code AK is USD 42 (MYR 120) for international flights. This fee will only apply if you make the changes at least 48 hours before departure.

Yes, you can either change your AirAsia flight date free of cost if your flight qualifies for the COVID-19 travel waiver, or a fee if your flight doesn’t isn’t covered under the travel waiver. The flight change fee will depend on your flight and route (domestic or international). 

If AirAsia changes your flight schedule and the new flight doesn’t suit you, you can change your flight date and time by up to 90 days after your original travel date. You can request the flight change by calling or the AirAsia office in your area, or do it through AVA by entering Reschedule in the dialog box, then selecting Move Flight from the menu, entering your booking reference number, and following the instructions to make the necessary changes.

If you’re not sure when you want to travel, you can opt to have the value of your ticket transferred into your AirAsia Credit Account and use the credit within the next 730 days. 

If you fall ill and can’t travel, you can ask AirAsia to postpone your flight by up to 90 days by transferring the value of the unused part of your ticket (minus non-refundable fees and charges) into your Credit Account. To do this, you will need to contact your nearest AirAsia Office and submit a copy of your medical certificate stating that you’re unable to travel on account of your illness. 

Yes, you can. AirAsia will refund the unused portion of your ticket (minus non-refundable charges) into your AirAsia Credit Account. To initiate the refund (valid for 90 days), you must submit a copy of the medical certificate and proof of relationship document (such as a marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc.) establishing your relationship with the family member. You can rebook your flight anytime within the next 90 days from the original flight’s departure date. 

Yes, you can postpone your flight by up to 90 days if a close family member dies (such as a spouse, children, parent/grandparent, brother/sister). AirAsia will issue a 90-day refund in the form of a Credit Account. The amount of refund will be limited to the unutilized part of your ticket minus any non-refundable charges. To request a refund, you must contact AirAsia’s customer support team and submit a copy of the death certificate along with a proof of relationship document.

Route changes are generally not permitted. But you can try contacting the local AirAsia office in your city/country or request via the Chat with AVA functionality on the homepage. Select the Refund option from the main menu and follow the prompts to see if you’re allowed to change your flight destination. 

If you’ve already been issued a flight booking number, you’re generally not allowed to make changes within 48 hours of departure, unless you’re willing to pay the flight change fee. If you’re changing your flight before 48 hours of departure, the following conditions apply:

1- If you select a cheaper flight, the fare difference will not be refunded. 
2- If you’re booking your new flight ticket in a higher travel class, you must pay the fare difference before cancelling or changing the flight. 
3- Flight changes will only be considered confirmed upon the issuance of a new ticket and/or booking number. 
4- Route changes are generally not allowed. 
As an exception, you can make changes to an I5 flight (AirAsia India) up to 4 hours before departure, subject to a flight change fee. All other conditions will remain the same as above.

If your flight has been delayed or rescheduled, AirAsia will contact you by SMS or email in advance. You must ensure while booking that you enter the correct contact details or you might miss out on important communications from the airlines.

If a pre-booked meal or seat is not available on your new flight, you will have to re-select from the options available. However, if you’ve pre-booked your baggage, it will be automatically transferred to your new flight (but a price difference may apply).

You can change an international flight on AirAsia (AK) without being charged a flight change fee if you book/booked a flight between June 3, and March 15, and your travel date is during the same period. You rebook your flight for free anytime up to March 31, as long as you do it online via My Bookings or the mobile app (requesting by phone may attract additional charges).

Yes, you can change your destination on AirAsia. However, you will have to pay the fare difference and the applicable flight change fee, depending on your flight and route and when you make the changes. However, you will not be charged a flight change fee if your flight falls under a COVID-19 travel waiver, explained under the section titled AirAsia Flight Change Rules.  

Yes, you can change your flight schedule on AirAsia as long as you’re willing to pay the fare difference and the applicable flight change fee. If your flight falls under a travel waiver, you will not have to pay a flight change fee but you will still have to pay the applicable fare difference.
