Due to the COVID-19 situation, AirAsia’s flight change rules and policies have been made more flexible. You’re allowed to make unlimited date changes to your flight via My Bookings without being charged a flight change fee, subject to the following terms and conditions:

If you make a flight booking between June 3, and March 15, with a travel date within the same period:

  • You can change your flight date without being charged a flight change fee. 
  • Your new travel date can be anytime up to March 31. 
  • You can change your flight online for free via My Bookings or the AirAsia mobile app.
    (If you request the change by phone, service charges may apply).

    If you make a flight booking between June 1, and March 20, with a travel date within the same period:
    • You can change your flight date without being charged a flight change fee.

    If you make a flight booking between January 10, and February 28, with a travel date between January 10, and June 30:
    • You can change your flight date without being charged a flight change fee. 
    • Your new travel date can be anytime up to June 30. 
    • You must change your flight online via My Bookings or the AirAsia mobile app.

Flight change rules for Thai AirAsia International flights (FD)


If you make a flight booking between June 3, and March 15, with a travel date between June 3, and March 26:

  • You can change your flight date without being charged a flight change fee. 
  • Your new travel date can be anytime up to March 26. 
  • You can change your flight online for free via My Bookings or the AirAsia mobile app.
    (If you request the change by phone, service charges may apply).

    If you make a flight booking between June 3, and March 15, with a travel date within the same period:
    • You can change your flight date without being charged a flight change fee. 
    • Your new travel date can be anytime up to March 31.

  • Flight changes are subject to seat availability.
  • If your new flight ticket is cheaper, the difference in fares will not be refunded to you. The fare difference will appear as Spoilage Fee in your revised booking but is not refundable.
  • If you book your flight in a higher fare class, you must pay the fare difference before making any changes to your flight. 
  • The flight change fee waivers will apply only to AirAsia flights. 
  • Flight change fee waivers also apply to SNAP packages. 
  • Fee waivers do not apply to hotel stays. 
  • Flight changes are confirmed only upon the issuance of a new itinerary. 
  • Changes to flight dates and/or time must be made:
    • At least 48 hours before departure (for a fee) for Low Fare and Value Pack fares.
    • Up to 4 hours before departure for AirAsia India (I5) flights.
    • Up to 2 hours before departure for Premium Flex and Premium Flatbed fares.
  • Route changes are not covered under flight change fee waivers. 
  • Changes to flight dates must be made through your BIG Member ID.
  • The flight change fee waivers will apply only if you:
    • Book online through AirAsia.com or the mobile app. If you make a group booking, you must go through the booking channel or your travel agent. 
    • Make the changes through My Bookings (Manage in some countries) on AirAsia.com or the mobile app.

If you make the changes by phone or through the travel agent you purchased your ticket from, additional service charges may apply. 

  • If you have already booked a seat or a meal in advance and they are not available on the new flight, you will have to reselect the options on your new flight. 
  • If you have already booked your checked baggage, you don’t need to rebook it—it will be carried forward to your new flight. You will have to pay the difference in baggage fee, if any.
  • Any add-on you might want to purchase on your new flight is subject to availability.

What to Do if Your AirAsia Flight is Cancelled Due to COVID-19

If your AirAsia flight has been cancelled because of a COVID-19 situation, you can:

  1. Change your flight date/time at no additional charge (except the applicable fare difference), or 
  2. Convert your ticket into a Credit Account and redeem it within the next 730 days  

Note

  • Malaysia. If you’re taking a flight within Malaysia, you can change your flight date/time without being charged a flight change fee as long as you pay the applicable fare difference.
  • Thailand. If you’re travelling between January 10 – February 28, you can make unlimited date/time changes till June 30, at no additional charge (other than the applicable fare difference). 

How to Request a Flight Change Online 

If your flight has been cancelled due to COVID-19, you can request a flight change as follows:

  1. Go to the homepage, AirAsia.com 
  2. Select the AVA icon 
  3. Click on COVID Flight Changes from the menu
  4. Select the I want to move my flight option 
  5. Follow the prompts to move your flight 

Note

  • When using AVA to make a flight change request, you must:
  • Use the same email address as the one you used to book your flight.
  • Use the same name as the one you used to book your flight.
  • Ensure that you rebook your flight on the dates when they are available. 
  • Follow the instructions exactly as provided by AVA. 
  • If you purchased your ticket from a third party (except Expedia), you must contact them to make the changes for you. 
  • After you submit your request successfully, AVA will provide a case number, which you will also receive by email. You can use this number to learn the current status of your request through My Cases after logging into your Big Rewards Member account.  
  • If your request doesn’t meet AirAsia’s terms and conditions, a Declined message will appear during/at the end of your chat session.
  • If you encounter any issues, call the AirAsia office in your country, or get in touch with AirAsia through WhatsApp, Facebook, or Twitter.

If I fall ill, can I change my flight date on AirAsia?

If you fall ill and can’t travel, you can ask AirAsia to postpone your flight by up to 90 days by transferring the value of the unused part of your ticket (minus non-refundable fees and charges) into your Credit Account. To do this, you will need to contact your nearest AirAsia Office and submit a copy of your medical certificate stating that you’re unable to travel on account of your illness. 

Can I postpone my flight if someone in my family falls ill?

Yes, you can. AirAsia will refund the unused portion of your ticket (minus non-refundable charges) into your AirAsia Credit Account. To initiate the refund (valid for 90 days), you must submit a copy of the medical certificate and proof of relationship document (such as a marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc.) establishing your relationship with the family member. You can rebook your flight anytime within the next 90 days from the original flight’s departure date. 

Can I change my flight schedule in case of the death of a family member?

Yes, you can postpone your flight by up to 90 days if a close family member dies (such as a spouse, children, parent/grandparent, brother/sister). AirAsia will issue a 90-day refund in the form of a Credit Account. The amount of refund will be limited to the unutilized part of your ticket minus any non-refundable charges. To request a refund, you must contact AirAsia’s customer support team and submit a copy of the death certificate along with a proof of relationship document.

Will AirAsia allow me to change my route if my flight is cancelled?

Route changes are generally not permitted. But you can try contacting the local AirAsia office in your city/country or request via the Chat with AVA functionality on the homepage. Under what conditions can I change my AirAsia flight?
