Flight change policy

Air New Zealand’s flight change policy is fairly liberal and allows you to make flight changes, depending on your route and fare type and the flight change fee will depend on your fare type.

  • Flight change policy for long-haul flights
Long-haul flights include flights on international sectors excluding flights between New Zealand, Australia, Tahiti, Bali, Fiji, Niue, the Cook Islands, Norfolk Island, Tonga, Vanuatu, or Samoa.
    • Value fares (Economy)
      • You can make changes to your flight for USD 100 per adult and child (infant fares can be changed for free). If the original fare is not available/applicable, you will be charged extra.
      • Adult and child fares are non-refundable at all times (only infant fares are fully refundable) but you’re allowed to cancel your flight before departure by converting your fare into a flight credit and using the credit to fly later. If the new fare is cheaper than the value of the flight credit, the residual value will be forfeited.
      • No-shows will be fully forfeited.
      • Name changes (to another person) are not permitted
      • Tickets cancelled within 24 hours of purchase are fully refundable if you purchase your ticket at least 7 days (168 hours) before the departure of the first flight on your itinerary.
    • Flexi fares

      • A service fee will be charged for both fares.
      • If the original fare is not available/applicable, you may have to pay extra. If the change conditions between outbound and return flights differ, the most restrictive conditions will apply for the entire trip.
      • If the new flight is cheaper, the residual amount will be forfeited.
      • Both fares can be refunded in the form of a flight credit that can be used toward another Air New Zealand flight.
