You can check in for an Avianca Airlines flight in several ways:

Avianca Airlines Check-in Times

Avianca Airlines recommends that you reach the airport at least 3 hours before departure for an international flight, 2 hours before departure for a domestic flight within Colombia, and 90 minutes before departure for a local flight within Ecuador. 

Exception. If you’ve already checked in for your flight online and are travelling without checked baggage, you can reach the airport up to 2 hours before departure for an international flight, and up to 1 hour before departure for a domestic flight.

Counter closing times. Avianca’s check-in counters close 60 minutes for departure for international flights, 45 minutes before departure for domestic flights within Colombia, and 35 minutes before departure for local flights within Ecuador. Boarding gates close 15 minutes before departure for all flights.

Web check-in time. Web check-in (i.e., online check-in) is available from 24 hours to 3 hours before departure for most Avianca Airlines flights.

When checking in online, you can also:

  • Select or change your seat 
  • Select which passengers you want to check-in
    (if your booking contains multiple passengers)
  • Purchase extra baggage 
  • Update your contact details/passenger information

  • Online check-in is not available for: 
  • More than 9 people on a single booking. 
  • Itineraries include more than 2 connections between origin and destination.
  • Codeshare routes. 
  • Connections with other airlines (you can only check in online for Avianca flights).

You can check in at an airport self-service kiosk within your check-in deadline (normally up to 3 hours before departure) for most flights.

How to check in?

Find a kiosk near Avianca’s counters and follow the steps below:

  1. Access the kiosk 
  2. Acknowledge the dangerous goods information 
  3. Select and enter an identification method from the options
  4. Confirm the passenger name/names
  5. Choose your seat 
  6. Enter the required contact information in case of an emergency 
  7. Enter the number of bags you’re carrying 
  8. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete your check in. After you check in, you can opt to receive a printout of your boarding pass. 

Note

  • If you’ve already downloaded your boarding pass via web check-in, you can receive a printout by scanning the code. 
  • You can also check in for a return/connecting flight if it is within the next 16 hours. 

How to print your Bag Tags?

To print your Bag Tags: 

  1. Select the Baggage to check option. 
  2. Choose the number of Bag Tags with the + button.
    Note. You’re allowed up to 2 per passenger. If you’re carrying more, go to Avianca’s check-in counter.
  3. Click on the Continue button. 

You will receive a printout of your Bag Tags.

After receiving a printout of your Bag Tags: 

  • Stick them to your luggage
  • Retain a receipt
  • Proceed to the baggage drop-off counter

At the baggage drop-off counter located near the kiosk: 

  • Scan your passport’s QR code
  • Bring the reader close to the barcode on your bag tag
  • After reading the barcode, the machine will check in your bag

      Send it to your e-mail address to make a printout later
