Aside from being costly, flight cancellations can be a real pain. This page brings you up to speed with the nuts and bolts of Spirit cancellation policy and shows you how to cancel your flight and get a refund, plus more.

If you want to cancel your flight, you may qualify for a full refund under Spirit cancellation policy. The conditions under which you can claim a refund are as follows:

  • Flight cancellations made at least 60 days before departure qualify for a full refund.
  • Flight cancellations within 24 hours of booking for flights departing after 7 days or more qualify for a full refund.
  • Flight cancellations by Spirit Airlines qualify for a full refund.
  • Flight delays exceeding 2 hours qualify for a full refund.
  • A rescheduled flight qualifies for a full refund.
  • Cancelling a flight due to COVID-19 qualifies for a full refund/Reservation Credit. This applies to all Spirit flight tickets booked for travel by March 31, 2021 (now over).
  • Special circumstances such as death, serious illness, jury duty, etc. qualify for a full refund, subject to documentary evidence and Spirit Airlines agreeing to it.

In all other scenarios, you will be charged a cancellation fee, depending on when you cancel.

Spirit Airlines 24-Hour Cancellations

Under Spirit Airlines 24-hour cancellation policy, you are allowed to cancel any flight within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund if the flight departs at least 7 days later (i.e., after 168 hours). This policy applies to all types of fares.

Passengers who cancel their flight within 7 days of travel or more than 24 hours after purchasing their ticket will be charged a fee.

Spirit Airlines Cancellation Policy for COVID

Spirit Airlines cancellation policy due to COVID-19 expired on March 31, 2021. Under this policy, all flights on the airlines that had been booked with a travel date of up to March 31, 2021, could have been cancelled free of charge.
However, if you are forced to cancel your flight booking due to COVID-19, or if your doctor advises you against travelling due to a COVID-19-related situation, you must immediately notify Spirit Airlines before your flight departs. Your ticket will likely be converted into a Reservation Credit that you can apply toward future travel. In exceptional circumstances, you may receive a refund.

Spirit Airlines Cancellation Due to Weather

If your flight is cancelled due to severe weather (or reasons outside of Spirit Airlines control), you will need to make your own accommodation arrangements (if required). The airlines will make reasonable efforts to provide information to help you secure accommodations on your own, but will not provide accommodation at its own cost. If your onward journey serves no purpose because your flight was cancelled due to weather, you may be eligible to cancel your flight and apply for a Reservation Credit that you can redeem to travel later.
