Under the Sun Country flight change policy, airfares (incl. additional components such as seat selection and baggage) are non-refundable but can be changed or cancelled before departure, less the applicable change fees. However, changes made 60 or more days before departure are free of charge.

  • If your new airfare is costlier, you must pay for the difference.

Sun Country Flight Change Policy Due to Illness

If you’re unable to travel (or continue with your trip) due to illness or physical incapacity (yours/immediate family member’s/travelling companion’s), Sun Country may extend the validity period of your ticket for up to 30 days beyond the original limit. 

To avail of this facility: 

  • The illness/incapacity must be certified in writing by a physician. 
  • The certificate must specify that you’re unable to complete your journey before the expiration of the original time limit due to illness or incapacity. 
  • You must submit the certificate to Sun Country along with your ticket and affected receipts.
  • The certificate must be endorsed by a Sun Country agent indicating that the travel extension has been granted to you.

How do I change my flight on Sun Country? 

  • You can change a flight-only reservation by phone () or online via My Trips but only if you booked directly through Sun Country (online, call center, or ticket office) or Expedia. Changes include a change of travel date or cancellation. Any other changes can be made by phone. 
  • Tickets booked with Expedia can be cancelled or changed (travel dates) online via My Trips. 
  • You can change (or cancel) a flight plus hotel reservation by phone.
  • You can change (or cancel) a flight plus car reservation online via My Trips if you booked directly through SunCountry.com. This includes travel dates only; all other changes must be requested by phone.
  • You can change (or cancel) a car-only reservation by phone or online through Avis/Budget website as long as you book directly through Sun Country’s preferred partners (Avis and Budget). If you’re making online changes, simply enter your last name and confirmation number that you received when you booked your ticket.

Sun Country Change Fee Waiver

What is Sun Country’s Change Fee Waiver?
Purchasing a Change Fee Waiver at the time of booking allows you to make a one-time modification to your flight booking without incurring any flight change fee, as long as you make the changes up to 1 hour before your first flight’s departure. 

If your new flight ticket is costlier, you will need to pay the fare difference (plus any optional services, government taxes, and fees). Any additional changes will be subject to the standard flight change fee. 

The Change Fee Waiver:

  • Applies only to flight bookings.
  • Can be used only once to modify a flight booking without incurring a change fee.
  • Can be added to your reservation only at the time of booking, provided you book directly through SunCountry.com, the Sun Country travel agent portal, or through Sun Country’s customer service.
  • Must be purchased for all passengers on the booking. 
  • Allows you to change your flight date, time, and/or destination/origin—at least 1 hour before the first flight’s departure.
  • Is available for select flights. 
  • If your new flight is cheaper, you will be issued a non-refundable, non-transferrable flight credit for future travel. 
  • Can be used from 59 days to 1 hour before departure as changes/cancellations are free at 60 or more days before departure.

What is the Sun Country change flight fee?

The Sun Country flight change fee (per direction) will depend on how early you’re making the changes, as shown in the table below. 

  • Flight changes made at least 60 days before departure are free of charge.
  • Flight changes made 59 – 14 days before departure will incur a change fee of USD 36 per segment. 
  • Flight changes made 13 – 0 days before departure will incur a change fee of USD 79 per segment.

How to Redeem a Sun Country Flight Credit

If you receive a Flight Credit* from Sun Country after cancelling or changing a flight, an email will be issued informing you of the total value of the flight credit. Flight credits expire 1 after the original date of booking and can be used to book a new flight on SunCountry.com.

*Flight credits are no longer being issued after January 20, 2021—they have been replaced by flight vouchers.
To redeem a flight credit:

  1. Go to SunCountry.com 
  2. Book your new trip
    Note. You will need to enter your 6-character flight credit code, which is the same as your original flight’s Reservation Code. It appears on top of the original booking confirmation email you would have received after you changed or cancelled your flight/itinerary. 
  3. On the Review and Pay page, select Use a Sun Country flight credit or voucher
  4. Now enter the following information:
    1. Last name of any passenger on the original booking
    2. 6-character Flight Credit Code 
  5. Click on Apply Credit
    (Enter more if you have multiple flight credits)
  6. If you need to make additional payment:
    1. Enter your credit card details

How to Redeem a Sun Country Flight Voucher

If you receive a Sun Country Flight Voucher due to a changed/cancelled flight or operational issues before/during a flight, an email will be issued to you indicating the total value of your flight voucher. You can use your flight voucher to book a new ticket via SunCountry.com up to 1 year after the original booking date.


To redeem a flight voucher online:

  1. Go to SunCountry.com 
  2. Book your new trip
    Note. When booking your new trip, use the 17-digit flight voucher code appearing on the email you received when you were issued the flight voucher. 
  3. On the Review and Pay page, select Use a Sun Country flight credit or voucher
  4. Enter the 17-digit flight voucher code
  5. Click on Apply Voucher
    Note. You can enter more than one if you have multiple flight vouchers
  6. If you still need to pay more:
    1. Enter your credit card details 
    2. Select Accept & Pay 

Your new e-ticket will be delivered to your registered email address.

How do I know whether I have a flight credit or a flight voucher?

Sun Country used to issue flight credits for flight changes/cancellations and operational irregularities before January 20, 2023. After January 20, 2024, flight credits have been replaced by flight vouchers. You will know whether you’re holding a flight credit or a flight voucher from the email you would have received when you were issued either of these, along with the amount issued (under Purchase Details).


You can redeem your flight credit/flight voucher to make a new flight booking on the Payments page. 

  • To redeem a flight credit, you will need to enter your last name and 6-character credit code, which is the same as the reservation code of your original flight itinerary. 
  • To redeem a flight voucher, you will need to enter the 17-digit flight voucher code appearing on the email you would have received when you were issued a flight voucher.
