How to Request Special Assistance on South African Airways

If you didn’t make any arrangements at the time of booking, you must inform a local office in your area at least 48 hours before departure. For contact details, refer to the section titled What to Do if You Require Special Assistance on South African Airways.

      • All aircraft are equipped with onboard wheelchairs to escort passengers to-and-from the toilets.

    • Guide dogs are allowed to travel free of charge in any class of the cabin on most flights. 
    • The guide dog must be properly harnessed and must remain with the passenger at all times. 
    • The guide dog must not occupy a seat, block any access, or the emergency escape route.

    • The device’s spare batteries must be suitably protected to prevent short-circuiting and carried as hand baggage in the passenger cabin.
    • Up to 3 batteries are allowed onboard—2 spares plus 1 in the device. 
    • The battery power must not exceed 160wH per battery.
    • Continuous flow oxygen concentrators owned by the passenger are accepted. 
    • For safety reasons, medical devices cannot be plugged into the inflight laptop power supply. 
  • Passengers with allergies 
    • Passengers with allergies to peanuts and/or other foods must inform the South African Airways reservations department about the condition. 
    • Passengers suffering from severe allergies must carry their emergency medication.
    • The airline will not take any responsibility if you have an allergic reaction during the flight.

You can make an online seat booking on South African Airways at the time of booking your ticket. After you select your flight, you will be shown a seat map to help you book a seat of your choice. If you did not book a seat when purchasing your ticket, you do it later (by phone, via social media, or through a travel agent). 

To make an online seat booking after purchasing your ticket, go to FlySAA.com, click on the My Booking option under Quick Links, retrieve your flight booking by entering your booking reference number and surname, then click on the Seats option under Before my flight, and choose a seat from the seat map that appears on your screen. Finally, accept the Terms and Conditions and pay the fee.

Remember, you can also select your seat by phone or through a travel agent.

You can make a website booking on South African Airways through the airline’s website, FlySAA.com. Go to the homepage (FlySAA.com), enter your requirements in the boxes that appear on your screen, follow the on-screen prompts to select your flight, choose a seat (optional), confirm your booking, and pay. You will receive your electronic ticket on the email ID provided by you at the time of booking. 

You can access your booking details on South African Airways online through the My Booking link appearing under Quick Links on FlySAA.com. Click on My Booking, enter your booking reference number and surname in the boxes, and flight booking details will show up.
