Qatar Airways Cancellation Policy

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Qatar Airways (QR) has amended its policies by guaranteeing more flexibility to all passengers. Passengers are now allowed to refund their tickets without penalty, or hold on to their tickets, make unlimited changes to them, or convert them into vouchers with 10% extra value. The new cancellation policy applies to tickets issued up to August 31, 2021, with a travel date up to May 31, 2022.

Under Qatar Airways revised flight cancellation policy, the unutilized value of any ticket purchased till August 31, 2021, with travel date up to May 31, 2022, can be cancelled and refunded without any penalty or refund fee. 

In normal circumstances, you’d be allowed to cancel your flight and ask for a full refund if:

• Qatar Airways Cancels your flight and the new flight doesn’t suit you.
• Qatar Airways causes you to miss a connecting flight.
• Qatar Airways denies you boarding (in which case you are eligible for denied boarding compensation also).
• You’re denied a visa to enter Qatar.

Qatar Airways Cancellation Rules 

According to Qatar Airways ticket cancellation rules:

• You must cancel your ticket at least 3 hours before departure to avoid paying a penalty.
• The refund will be credited to your original payment method and in the currency through which you paid.
• If you booked your ticket directly with Qatar Airways, you can cancel your ticket and ask for a refund online or on phone by calling Qatar Airways. 
• If you booked your ticket through a third party (such as a travel agent or an online platform), you must contact them directly to cancel your ticket and process your refund. 
• Refund penalties and no-show fees will be waived as long as you cancel your ticket before departure. 

Qatar Airways Ticket Cancellation within 24 Hours

Qatar Airways ticket cancellation within 24 hours applies to flight bookings to or from the United States. Under this policy, you’re allowed to hold your flight booking for up to 24 hours without paying anything. After you pay for your ticket, the normal rules will apply. 

Qatar Airways Cancellation Policy for USA 

Qatar Airways cancellation policy for USA allows you to hold your flight booking to or from the United States for free for up to 24 hours without payment as long as your travel date is at least 7 days away. As soon as you pay and receive your ticket before the 24 hours are over, the standard rules of your fare will apply. 

Note. Qatar Airways can hold your booking for flights departing in less than 7 days, or for more than 24 hours, for fee ranging from USD 10–30, depending on your point of origin.

Qatar Airways Free Cancellation

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Qatar Airways is allowing passengers to cancel and refund their flights free of charge. Alternatively, you can convert your flight booking into a voucher for future travel with 10% more value, or simply hold on to your booking for up to 2 years from the date of issue of your ticket. Remember, the free cancellation and change fee waivers only apply to tickets purchased up to August 31, 2021 with a travel date up to May 31, 2022.

If you’re cancelling outside of this window, the cancellation charges indicated on your ticket will apply.

Qatar Airways Cancellation Policy Due to Severe Illness

According to Qatar Airways cancellation policy, if a passenger is unable to catch a flight due to severe illness of the passenger or a close relative, the passenger may be eligible to claim a refund after submitting a medical certificate to the satisfaction of Qatar Airlines. 

Qatar Airways Cancellation Policy Due to Death 

According to Qatar Airways cancellation policy, if a passenger dies before travelling, the passenger’s legal heirs are entitled to claim a refund after submitting a valid death certificate. 

Qatar Airways Cancellation Fee 

Qatar Airways cancellation fee will depend on what type of ticket you’ve purchased—refundable or non-refundable. However, the cancellation fee has been temporarily waived for tickets purchased up to August 31, 2021 for travel up to May 31, 2022.

If you cancel outside of this window, the cancellation fee will be calculated based on your travel class and the type of fare purchased by you. 

If you cancel a refundable ticket before departure, you will be refunded the unutilized portion of your fare minus the applicable cancellation fee. The cancellation fee will depend on your travel class and the type of fare you’ve purchased, and typically ranges from USD 90 – 220. If you cancel your ticket through Qatar Airways ticket office or call center, or at an airport desk, you will also be charged a non-refundable service fee of USD 25 in addition to the above-mentioned fee. 

If you’re holding a non-refundable ticket, no part of the fare will be refunded to you.

How to cancel a Qatar Airways flight 

Qatar Airways booking cancellation policy allows you to cancel your flight in the following ways:

1. For tickets purchased online from Qatar Airways’ website, mobile app, or ticket counter, or call center:
   • Through Manage booking or My Trips.
   • By phone (to a call center). 
2. For tickets purchased from a travel agent, contact them directly.
3. For award tickets, contact Privilege Club directly.

How to Know if Your Flight Ticket is Refundable

To check whether your Qatar Airways’ ticket can be refunded, read the fare details on your ticket, ask a Qatar Airways call center by phone, or ask your travel agent if you booked through them. 

Flight Rebooking Options

Under Qatar Airways revised flight change policy, if your flight ticket was issued till August 31, 2021 with a travel date of up to May 31, 2022, you can:

• Change your date of travel and/or destination in the same cabin class free of charge (the fare difference, if any, will apply). 
• Change and rebook as often as required without any penalty. 

The original value of your ticket will be credited toward the purchase of your new ticket. If you exchange your ticket with a voucher, an additional 10% of your basic ticket fare (excluding taxes, surcharges, etc.) will be credited to your account. However, you must utilize your new ticket by May 31, 2022. 

Qatar Airways Compensation Policy Due to Flight Delays and Cancellations

Under EU Regulation EC 261/2004, if you’re travelling to or from an airport in the EU, you have the following rights. 

• Any flight delay of 2 hours at the departure airport entitles you to free drinks, meals, and communications. If required, you will also be provided hotel accommodation and transportation between the hotel and the airport. 
• If your flight is delayed at the departure airport by 5 hours or more, you can either claim a full refund or accept the onward travel assistance provided by Qatar Airways. 
• If your flight within the EU arrives late at your final destination city by 2 hours or more (due to a reason within the airline’s control), you are entitled to not only receive the necessary assistance but a financial compensation of:
  • EUR 125 if the flight distance is up to 1500km and the delay is up to 2 hours. 
  • EUR 200 if the flight distance is 1500 – 3500km and the delay in 3 – 4 hours. 
  • EUR 300 if the flight distance is more than 3500km and the delay is 3 – 4 hours. 
• If your flight between an EU airport and a non-EU airport arrives late at your final destination city by 2 hours or more (due to a reason within the airline’s control), you are entitled to not only receive the necessary assistance but a financial compensation of:
  • EUR 250 if the flight distance is up to 1500km and the delay is more than 2 hours. 
  • EUR 400 if the flight distance is 1500 – 3500km and the delay is 4 hours or more. 
  • EUR 600 if the flight distance is more than 3500km and the delay is 4 hours or more. 
  • If Qatar Airways cancelled your flight and you were informed less than 2 weeks before departure or if you’re denied boarding, you are entitled to:
    • Be transported to your final destination on a comparable mode of alternative transportation, or
    • A full refund of your ticket, or
    • The transportation fee to your departure city if connecting flights are available, and
    • Monetary compensation of EUR 250 – 600 depending on your flight’s distance. However, if you’re offered an alternative flight and you arrive late at your final destination by 2, 3, or 4 hours (depending on the flight distance), your compensation will be reduced by 50%. 
  • If Qatar Airways cancels or reroutes your flight within the EU and you arrive late by 2 hours or more (due to a reason within the airline’s control), you are entitled to not only receive the necessary assistance but a financial compensation of:
  • EUR 125 if the flight distance is up to 1500km and the delay is up to 2 hours. 
  • EUR 200 if the flight distance is more than 1500 and the delay is 3 hours or more. 
  • EUR 300 if the flight distance is more than 3500km and the delay is 3 – 4 hours.
  • If Qatar Airways cancels or reroutes your flight between an EU airport and a non-EU airport and you arrive more than 3 hours late (due to a reason with the airline’s control), you are entitled to not only receive the necessary assistance but a financial compensation of:
  • EUR 200 if the flight distance is 1500 – 3500km and the delay is 3 – 4 hours. 
  • EUR 300 if the flight distance is more than 3500km and the delay is 3 – 4 hours.
  • EUR 400 if the flight distance is 1500 – 3500km and the delay is 4 hours or more.
  • EUR 600 if the flight distance is more than 3500km and the delay is 4 hours or more.

Note

If you flight is cancelled due to extraordinary circumstances (i.e., circumstances beyond the airline’s control) such as bad weather, air traffic issues, strikes, etc., you will not be entitled to any monetary compensation. However:

• You will be entitled to receive adequate assistance while you wait for alternative transportation options. 

• You will be entitled to a refund within 7 days, or 
• An alternative transportation option to your final destination, or
• An alternative transportation option at a date convenient to you, or 
• Free transportation to and from the airport if your flight departs from a different airport.
