Qantas Airways cancellation policy allows passengers travelling on domestic and international flights to cancel their tickets and have their fares refunded without penalty under certain conditions.

The major highlights of Qantas Airways cancellation policy are provided below:

• You have the right to claim a full refund (without any penalty) if Qantas:
  • Is unable to carry you on a flight where you have a confirmed reservation. 
  • Cancels your flight and is unable to make suitable alternative arrangements.
  • Downgrades you from the class you paid for.
  • Fails to stop at a stopover or destination indicated on your ticket.
  • Delays your flight so much that it no longer suits your purpose.
  • Delays your flight significantly and is unable to book you on an alternative flight that suits you. 
  • Causes you to miss an onward connecting flight on Qantas on which you have a confirmed reservation. 
• If you purchase your ticket in the United States, you can cancel your reservation and receive a full refund without any charge within 24 hours of ticketing, provided you purchased your ticket at least 7 days before the scheduled departure of the first flight in your itinerary. 
• If you purchased your ticket:
  • Directly through Qantas (website or sales office), you must request cancellation directly through Qantas. 
  • From a travel agent/third-party website, you must contact them directly to cancel your ticket.
• You will be automatically rebooked on the next available flight at no additional charge—or you can choose to ask for a full penalty-free refund if:
  • Your flight schedule undergoes a significant change due to reasons within the airline’s control (and not due to reasons outside of its control, such as bad weather, etc.).
  • Your flight is rescheduled/delayed due to reasons beyond the airline’s control (such as bad weather).
  • You book a ticket on a route that is subsequently discontinued or cancelled.
• If you are involuntarily denied boarding due to overbooking on a flight on which you have a confirmed reservation and have met all the airline’s travel requirements, you will be offered a seat on the next available flight. However, if this is not acceptable to you, you have the right to claim a refund, plus any compensation and care required by the applicable law.

Qantas 24-Hour Cancellation Policy

The Qantas 24-hour cancellation policy allows all passengers who purchase a ticket in the United States to cancel their reservation without any penalty if they:

• Cancel their reservation within 24 hours of ticketing, and
• Purchase their ticket at least 7 days before the first flight’s departure.

Qantas COVID-19 Cancellation Policy

If you or any passenger in your booking tests positive for COVID-19 during the week preceding your flight, you’re allowed to change (but not cancel) your travel dates without having to pay any change fee. Just call your local travel agent/sales office to make changes to your booking. However, you must pay the applicable fare difference.

How to Claim a Refund on Qantas

If you want to claim a refund, you must call the local Qantas office, or the travel agent you purchased your ticket from. If you qualify for a refund:

• You will receive the full fare if you haven’t utilized any portion of your ticket.
• You will receive the difference between the fare paid and the fare consumed if you’ve utilized a portion of your ticket.

How to Cancel a Qantas Booking Online

To cancel your Qantas flight online:

1. Visit the homepage, Qantas.com
2. Select Manage booking
3. Retrieve your booking by entering your:
   1. Booking Reference/Flight Credit Number/Voucher Reference, and 
   2. Last name
4. Hit the red search button
5. Click on the Cancel/Voucher button under Flights
   (on the right side)
6. Select the Flight Credit or Refund option
7. Accept the terms and conditions

After your flight has been cancelled and/or your Flight Credit successfully credited to your account, you will receive a confirmation email at the email address provided by you at the time of booking.

If you’re a Qantas Business Rewards member or Frequent Flyer, you can also log into your account and use the Manage option to cancel your flight booking.

Tip. If the cancel button appears grayed out, you will need to call the local Qantas office for assistance and you may be charged a service fee.
