AirAsia’s check-in times are as follows:

  • AirAsia flights. You can web check-in from 14 days to 60 minutes before your flight’s departure for most flights.
  • AirAsia X flights. You can web check-in from 14 days to 4 hours before your flight’s departure for most flights.

Exceptions

  • Passengers traveling from/to the United States cannot self-check-in—they must check in at the airport counter.

You can web check for an AirAsia flight via the airline’s website from 14 days before departure to 1 hour before departure for AirAsia flights and 4 hours before departure for AirAsia X flights.

How to web check-in for an AirAsia flight

To web check-in for your AirAsia flight:

  1. Go to AirAsia.com 
  2. Click on the Check-in tab (see the screenshot above)
    The following page will appear on your screen:

  3. Enter your Booking number and First name or Surname
  4. Click on the Search button to access your itinerary 
  5. Follow the prompts to check in 

You will receive your electronic boarding pass by email.

When you web check-in for your flight, you can also: 

  • Select a seat of your choice
  • Change your seat (for a fee) if you had selected earlier
  • Choose a special meal
    (at least 24 hours before departure)
  • Book extra baggage
  • Download your electronic boarding pass (most cases)

Note

  • After checking in and dropping off your bags on the day of travel, you must reach the boarding gate at least 30 minutes before your flight’s departure (boarding gates close 20 minutes before departure). 
  • Documents required. If you’re checking in for a domestic flight, you’ll need to carry a valid ID card. For international flights, you’ll need a passport that is valid for at least the next 6 months. To avoid complications at the destination airport, make sure you have a visa and a return ticket. 
  • You will need to check in at the airport if:
    • You’re traveling to/from the United States or the Maldives. 
    • You require special assistance or experience reduced mobility.
    • You’re travelling with an infant who is 8 days old or less.
    • You’re a Young Passenger Travelling Alone (YPTA).
    • You’re suffering from a medical condition.
    • You’re pregnant.

What if AirAsia web check-in is not working?


If AirAsia web check-in is not working, try refreshing your browser or use a different browser to check in. Also, make sure you’ve entered all the fields accurately. If you’re still unable to check in or if your airport does not accept web check-ins, you will need to check in at the airport kiosk or counter.

AirAsia Scan2Fly


You can use AirAsia’s AI-powered Scan2Fly to check the country-specific validity of your travel documents for self-check-in, such as your SafeTravel Pass, PCR test certificate, etc. This can save you time at the airport on the day of travel. 

How to use Scan2Fly

  1. Go to AirAsia.com
  2. Select the Check-in tab 
  3. Enter your flight booking details 
  4. Select the passenger name
    (do not check the COVID-19 declaration box at this stage)
  5. Upload the certificate/document (such as PCR/Safe Travel Pass)

After the document has been approved, a green checkmark with the word Verified will show up on your screen. 

  1. Click on the Continue button 
  2. Check the COVID-19 Declaration box to check in 

You will receive your electronic boarding pass. 

On the day of travel, you can: 

  • Proceed to the gate directly, or 
  • Go to the check-in kiosk to print your bag tag and perform a self-baggage drop (if available), or
  • Drop your bags at the bag drop counter and proceed for security checks and boarding

Note. If you’re unable to upload your documents or your documents are rejected, you will need to get them verified at the airport check-in counter.

Air Asia Web Check-in Rules

What are the web check-in rules and requirements at AirAsia?

If you’re performing a web check-in for an Air Asia flight, the following rules apply:

  • For AirAsia flights, web check-in is available from 14 days to 1 hour before departure.
  • For AirAsia X flights, web check-in is available from 14 days to 4 hours before departure.
  • Web check-in is not available for:
  • Passengers traveling to and from the United States or the Maldives 
  • Passengers with a medical condition
  • Pregnant passengers
  • Unaccompanied minors below 16  
  • Passengers traveling with an infant 8 days old or below
  • Passengers with reduced mobility or special needs
  • Passengers who are not eligible for self-check-in must check in at the airport counters.

AirAsia mobile app check-in process—explained

You can check in with AirAsia’s mobile app from 14 days before departure to 1 hour before departure for AirAsia flights, and 4 hours before departure for AirAsia X flights.

After downloading the AirAsia Mobile App from AirAsia’s official website:

  1. Launch the mobile app
  2. Tap on the Check-in button 
  3. Enter your family name/surname and booking number 
  4. Complete the required formalities 
  5. Your mobile boarding pass will be automatically generated 

Mobile self-check-in is not available for:

  • Passengers traveling to and from the United States or the Maldives 
  • Passengers with a medical condition
  • Unaccompanied minors below 16  
  • Passengers traveling with an infant 8 days old or below
  • Passengers with reduced mobility or special needs 

AirAsia Self-Service Kiosk Check-in

You can check in at the airport’s self-service kiosk from 14 days before departure to 1 hour before departure for AirAsia flights, and 4 hours before departure for AirAsia X flights.

Aside from checking in, you can print your boarding pass and get your bags tagged at the check-in kiosks at most airports in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and India. If you’re self-checking in at the airport, have your 6-character booking number ready (it appears in your travel itinerary).

Kiosk check-ins are free for international flights but subject to a check-in fee of RM 10 per passenger on domestic flights within Malaysia.

Note

  • If you’re traveling to an international destination (outside of Malaysia) on AirAsia, you will have to validate your web boarding pass at your airport’s self-check-in counter even if you’ve completed your online check-in.
  • After checking in and dropping off your bags, you must reach the boarding gate at least 30 minutes before your flight’s departure (boarding gates close 20 minutes before departure). 

AirAsia Airport Counter Check-in

You can check in at the airport counter: 

  • For domestic flights within Malaysia. From 2 hours before departure to 1 hour before departure from KLIA2, 30 minutes before departure from Japan, and 45 minutes before departure from other airports.
  • For international flights. From 3 hours to 1 hour before departure (except Taipei Taoyuan counter, which opens 2.5 hours before departure for Nagoya–Taipei routes).

To check in at AirAsia’s airport counter:

  1. Go to AirAsia’s airport check-in desk.
  2. Present your travel documents, such as:
  1. Your passport and/or valid ID
  2. Your ticket

When should I reach the airport to catch my AirAsia flight?

You must reach the airport early to avoid long queues at immigration and security checks—even if you have already self-checked in online. 

  • For international flights, reach the airport at least 3 hours before departure.
  • For domestic flights, reach the airport at least 2 hours before departure.

If you’re carrying checked baggage, you will need to follow the baggage drop closing times below.

AirAsia Baggage Drop Closing Times 

  • For international flights, the airport check-in counters open 3 hours before departure and close 1 hour before departure (except Nagoya-Taipei flights—Taipei’s check-in counter opens 2.5 hours before departure).

Frequently Asked Questions on AirAsia Airlines

Can anyone perform a web check in at AirAsia?

Most passengers can web check-in at AirAsia. However, if you’re traveling from or to the United States or the Maldives, you cannot web check-in—you will have to check in at the airport counter.
