Japan Airlines Check-in Time 

When should I check in for my Japan Airlines flight?

Japan Airlines’ check-in time will depend on how you’re checking in, as explained below. 

  1. Online Check-in Time 
  • For international flights, you can web check-in via QuiC from 24 hours to 1 hour before your flight’s departure, including for flights operated by British Airways, Iberia, and American Airlines. For Finnair flights, you can web check in from 36 hours before departure.
  • For domestic flights within Japan, there are no additional check-in requirements if you have booked your ticket and selected your seat. All you need to do is scan your Touch & Go two-dimensional barcode or tap your JMB/JALCARD over the reader and make sure you check in your baggage at least 30 minutes before departure, go through the security gate at least 20 minutes before departure (30 minutes if you’re connecting to a domestic or an international flight), and reach the boarding gate at least 10 minutes before departure.
  1. Check-in and Ticketing Kiosk Check-in Time
    Available at select airports, you can check in at a self-service kiosk at least 1 hour before departure for international flights. For domestic flights, you don’t need to check in if you have purchased your ticket and booked your seat.
  2. Airport Counter Check-in Time 

You must complete your check-in process: 

  • For international flights. At least 1 hour before departure. 
    • You must be at the boarding gate at least 30 minutes before departure. 
  • For domestic flights. You must: 
    • Check in your baggage at least 30 minutes before departure
    • Pass the security gate at least 20 minutes before departure
      (30 minutes if you’re connecting to a domestic or an international flight). 
    • Reach the boarding gate at least 10 minutes before departure.

About online check-in at Japan Airlines

Japan Airlines’ web check-in (also known as online check-in) is available from 24 hours (local time) to 60 minutes before the scheduled departure time. You can use JAL’s QuiC online service to choose your seat, check in online for your flight, and receive your boarding pass. Checking in online saves you the hassle of standing in a line and checking in at the airport on the day of departure. 

Web check-in, i.e., online check-in, is available for all international flights operated by Japan Airlines, except charter flights and codeshare flights operated by other airlines. Also, if your airport does not accept home-printed boarding passes/mobile boarding passes, you will need to check in from the airport’s check-in counter.

You can register for advance web check-in from the time you book your flight till 24 hours before the departure of your first flight by clicking on the Web Check in button on the right side, as shown above. This will automatically check you for your flight 24 hours before departure, as long you provide your passport number and other information after purchasing your ticket. You will be automatically assigned a seat (if you haven’t selected one), and your boarding pass will be sent to you via a web check-in notification email. 

If you’re checking in online for your JAL flight, have the following information ready:

  1. Your e-ticket/receipt
  2. Passport details of each passenger
  3. e-mail address of each passenger/representative passenger

To check in online for a Japan Airlines international flight from 24 hours to 1 hour before departure, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to JAL.com 
  2. Choose your City and Language and click on the Go button, or
    Select your Language and Country from the boxes appearing below
  3. Click on the Check in tab and then on the Web Check in button 
  4. Search for your reservation by: 
    1. Reservation Number, or
    2. E-ticket Number, or
    3. Authorization Number (provided by your travel agent)
  5. Enter your: 
    1. Flight number
    2. Departure date 
    3. Passenger name
  6. Click on the Identification button 
  7. Select the passengers to be checked in
    Note. This step will be skipped if there’s only one passenger in the booking. If your travel companion has a separate booking, you can check her/him from this page, or select the Add Passenger option 2 steps later and repeat the step above.
  8. Confirm that you’re not carrying restricted items.
  9.  Confirm your flight and seat selection and click on Continue.
    Note. You can change your seat by clicking on the Seat Map button and add a travel companion by clicking on the Add Passenger button on the left.
  10. Now select the passenger and seat (for all passengers) and then click on the Confirm Seats button.
  11. Enter your passenger and passport details and click on the Confirm Details button
  12. Enter your contact details and click on the Save Contact Details button 
  13. Select how you want to receive your boarding pass:
    1. By e-mail
    2. By printout 
    3. On iPhone/iPad via Wallet
    4. Mobile Boarding Pass (Google Pay)

…and click on the Continue button 

The Check-in Complete page will now show up on your screen, which means you’ve completed your check-in process. On the day of departure: 

  • Bring your e-ticket and boarding pass (printed or on the mobile) to the airport
  • Drop off your bags at the Fast Baggage Drop counter
  • Go through security
  • Head for the boarding gate

Note. If your airport does not accept web check-in/mobile check-in, you will need to check in either at the airport kiosk (if available) or at the airport counter.

You will not be able to web check in for your flight if:

  • You require special assistance to board your flight. 
  • Your Reservation Number is not registered in your flight booking. If you booked your flight through a travel agent, the Reservation Number issued by them may be different, so you must make sure you enter the JL/Japan Airlines flight Reservation Number.
  • There are several passengers in the same booking for different flights on the same day and from the same airport. 
  • There’s another passenger with the same last and first name in the same flight booking.
  • If the Authorization Number (issued by your travel agent) has not been registered in the booking (check with your travel agent).
  • Your tour package ticket (issued by your travel agent) does not qualify for web check-in. 
  • If the flight information has been updated/changed in the booking but not on the ticket. 
  • Your visa has expired.

If you have an e-ticket, you can check in at an airport kiosk* (available at select airports) for an international flight at least 1 hour before departure. Check-ins are not required for domestic flights within Japan if you have already booked your ticket and selected your seat.

You can use a self-service kiosk to:

  • Check in for your flight.
  • Select your seat from a seat map.
  • Obtain a printout of your boarding pass
    (even if you have completed your QuiC web check-in).
  • Obtain a printout of your baggage receipt for JAL TEBURA Service.
  • Obtain your e-ticket itinerary/receipt.
  • Obtain a printout of your baggage tag (at select airports).

To check in at a self-service kiosk, you must have at least one of the following items:

To check in at a self-service kiosk, follow the steps below:

  1. Select Check-in as your preferred service
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to check in up to 6 passengers. 
  3. After you complete your check-in, the completion screen will display what you will need to board your flight.


    Make sure each passenger on your booking: 
    1. Is carrying the items required for boarding. 
    2. Passes through the security checkpoint at least 20 minutes before departure. If you have bags to check, you should be at the baggage counter at least 30 minutes before departure.

* If you’re checking in several passengers, each passenger will be issued a Boarding Pass. If each passenger uses a different verification item, all passengers being checked in will be issued a boarding pass simultaneously if one of the passengers enters an Order Number or inserts a card. Do ensure you have received a boarding pass for each passenger. 

At the security checkpoint and boarding gate, scan or tap the item to pass through.

You may not be able to use a self-check-in kiosk if:
  • You’re travelling on a codeshare flight operated by another airline.
  • Your passport is not machine-readable.

Frequently Asked Questions on Japan Airlines Check-in

You don’t need to web check-in (or check in at an airport counter/kiosk) for boarding a domestic Japan Airlines flight if you have already booked your ticket and selected your seat, thanks to JAL’s Touch & Go Boarding process.


After reaching the airport, you can board your flight by following these steps:

  • Drop off your baggage at the Baggage Counter (if carrying), and/or
  • Proceed to the security checkpoint, and: 
    • Scan your 2D barcode (e-ticket itinerary/receipt), or 
    • Tap your IC card (JALCARD/JMB Card) over the reader
  • Go to the boarding gate and scan/tap as above to board your flight.

Yes, you can—up to 1 hour before departure. If you have already checked in for an international flight, you can cancel your check-in and boarding from JAL’s website. Select your itinerary via the Web Check-in tab and follow the on-screen prompts to cancel your web check-in. Remember, cancelling your check-in will not cancel your itinerary.

If you can’t access your mobile boarding pass, take your e-ticket to the airport counter.

Yes, you must bring your e-ticket receipt (i.e., flight ticket) as well as your boarding pass (home-printed or mobile).

You’re allowed to change your seat up to 1 hour before departure.

To change your seat after you’ve checked in for your flight:

  1. Click on Manage Booking
  2. Enter the flight details of the flight you want to change the seat on
  3. Select Modify Check-in on the Itinerary List page
  4. Confirm that you’re not carrying any Restricted Items
  5. On the Overview page, select (from the seat map) the seat you want to change
  6. Click on Confirm Seats
  7. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete your check-in and receive your new boarding pass
     

To reserve a paid seat, cancel your check-in and repeat the online check-in procedure.

No, you can’t—unless it’s for a flight operated by British Airways, American Airlines, Iberia, or Malaysia Airlines.

Yes, you can—by checking in at the airport counter. 

Japan Airlines’ international check-in service, known as QuiC, allows you to check in online for an international flight from 24 hours to 60 minutes before departure. This includes flights operated by Iberia, British Airways, and American Airlines. For Finnair flights, you can check in online from 36 hours before departure.

If you’re checking in at an airport kiosk or counter, you must ensure that you’ve also checked in your baggage at least 60 minutes before departure and that you reach the boarding gate at least 30 minutes before your flight’s scheduled departure time.

If you’re checking in in the Philippines, you will not be able to home-print or download your mobile your boarding pass, as both are not available. You must proceed to the airport counter to collect your boarding pass.

For boarding a domestic flight within Japan, you don’t need to check in for your flight if you have purchased your ticket and selected your seat. JAL’s Touch & Go Boarding process allows you to board your flight after reaching the airport, as explained below.


After you reach the airport:

  • Drop your bags at the Baggage Counter 
  • Go to the security checkpoint, and: 
    • Tap your IC card (JALCARD/JMB Card) on the reader, or
    • Scan your 2D barcode (e-ticket itinerary/receipt) 
  • Proceed to the boarding gate and scan/tap as above 
  • Board your flight

You can check in online or with the mobile app from 24 hours to 60 minutes before departure if you’re checking in from the United States. All airports accept home-printed and mobile boarding passes. If you’re travelling with baggage, drop off your bags at the Fast Baggage Drop counter and reach the boarding gate at least 30 minutes before departure to avoid missing your flight.

If you’re flying on a domestic route within Japan, you must: 

  • Check in yourself and your baggage at least 30 minutes before departure.
  • Go through security at least 20 minutes before departure (30 minutes if you’re connecting to a domestic or an international flight).
  • Reach the boarding gate at least 10 minutes before departure.

If you’re flying out of Canada on Japan Airlines, you can web check in for your flight from 24 hours to 60 minutes before departure. If you’re travelling without baggage, proceed directly to security and reach the boarding gate at least 30 minutes before departure. 

If you’re travelling with luggage, drop it off at the Fast Baggage Drop counter and be at the boarding gate at least 30 minutes before your flight’s scheduled departure time.

Japan Airlines check-in counters are currently located on Level 4 (Counter R) in the departures lobby of Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

Japan Airlines check-in counters are currently located in Terminal 1, Row 2 of Singapore Changi International Airport. The Premier Check-in Lounge and Early Check-in Lounge are located on the second floor of Terminal 1 but may be temporarily closed. 

The airport check-in counters open 3 hours before departure and close 60 minutes before departure. Those who can also use the Premier Check-in Lounge include: 

  • Business Class passengers
  • JMB Diamond members
  • Sapphire members
  • Crystal members
  • JGC Premier/JGC members
  • oneworld Elite status members

To choose English as the check-in language, go to Japan Airlines’ homepage and choose your City and Language (the latter as English) from the options that appear on the screen and then click on the Go button, or select your Language (as English) and Country from the boxes appearing below.

Japan Airlines internet check-in is available to international passengers (relative to Japan). After you’ve checked in online for your flight (24 hours to 60 minutes before departure), you don’t need to stand in a line at the airport to check in for your flight. On the day of travel, carry your e-ticket and home-printed/mobile boarding pass, proceed to the Fast Baggage Drop counter, drop off your baggage, go through the security check after showing/scanning your boarding pass, and reach the boarding gate at least 30 minutes before departure. 

Most passengers can web check in at Japan Airlines via JAL’s QuiC online service. Web check-in is available for all Japan Airlines-operated international flights, other than charter flights and codeshare flights operated by other airlines. When checking in online, you must have your e-ticket/receipt, passport details, and e-mail address ready with you. 

You may not be able to check in for your flight if you will be needing special assistance to board your flight, your reservation number has not been registered in your flight booking, or several passengers in your flight booking are catching different flights on the same day and from the same airport. 

You will also not be able to web check in for your flight if there are 2 or more passengers with the same name in the same flight booking; if your ticket does not qualify for web check-in; your visa has expired; or if your flight information has been changed/updated but not your ticket.

Japan Airlines web check-in at Singapore opens 24 hours before departure and closes 60 minutes before departure. After you have web checked in for your flight, on the day of travel, you don’t need to check in at the airport. Just carry your e-ticket and home-printed/mobile boarding pass, drop off your luggage at the Fast Baggage Drop counter, proceed to security check and show/scan your boarding pass, and be at the boarding gate at least 30 minutes before departure. When boarding starts, show/scan the 2-D code on the boarding pass and board your flight.

Japan Airlines’ check-in service for international flights is known as QuiC. You can use QuiC to web check in for international flights from 24 hours to 1 hour before departure. You can also check in within the same time limits for flights operated by American Airlines, British Airways, and Iberia.

When you check in online, have your e-ticket/receipt, passport details (of each passenger), and email address of each passenger/representative passenger at hand. 

You also have the option to register for advance web check-in. You can do this right from the time you book your flight till 24 hours before departure. To register, click on the Web Check in button on the right, provide the required information (along with your passport details), and follow the prompts to complete your registration. Once your registration is complete, you will be automatically checked in for your flight when check-in commences and assigned a seat if you haven’t already selected you’re You will receive your boarding pass through a web check-in notification email, which you must bring with you (along with your e-ticket) to the airport.
