WestJet Check-in

Westjet check-in requires passengers to check-in for their flights before departure, for which it allows the passengers to check in for their departing flights within 24 hours. There are several ways to check-in with Westjet Airlines, as the options include, online check-in, mobile, kiosk, and airport counter check-in.

Furthermore, regardless of the method chosen by the passengers, it is advised to arrive at the airport with enough time to get through the security lines, specifically for the international departures, as the international check-ins with Westjet may require additional procedures.

WestJet Airlines Check-in Options 

WestJet provides the following check-in options:

1. Online check-in
2. Mobile check-in
3. Kiosk check-in
4. Airport counter check-in

WestJet Check in Online

WestJet allows you to check in for your flight online from 24 hours to 60 minutes before your flight’s departure on a confirmed reservation. Online check-in allows you to:

• Check in for a WestJet flight or a code-share/interline flight if the first flight is operated by WestJet.
• Add WestJet Rewards, AAdvantage, or SkyMiles number to your reservation.
• Select an earlier flight. 
• Select or upgrade your seat.
• Pay for excess baggage in advance.
  (Also print the receipt to show at the bag drop counter)
• Email your boarding pass to yourself.
• Print your boarding pass.

To check in online for your WestJet flight:

1. Go to WestJet.com
2. Click on the Check in tab
3. Click on the Check In Now button
   

To access your trip by Reservation Code (opens by default)	To access your trip by Ticket Number(select from the dropdown)
Enter your Last name and 5- or 6-character reservation code	Select the Ticket number option from the dropdownEnter your Last name and 13-digit ticket number

4. Click on the Find My Trip button 
5. Follow the on-screen prompts to check in for your flight

Your boarding pass will be emailed to you as you complete your Westjet online check-in.

Note

Regardless of how you check in, you must:

• Have your 5/6 character reservation code. 
• Have your passport if you’re travelling outside of Canada.
• Have your destination address, cruise, or transit airline details if you’re travelling to the U.S. 
• Submit ArriveCAN within 72 hours before arriving in Canada.

Exceptions to Online Check-in 

You may need to check in at the airport if:

• You’re departing from Cuba or the Dominican Republic
• You’re special needs passenger requiring assistance at the airport
• You’ve purchased an extra seat for yourself
• You’re travelling as an unaccompanied minor
• You’re travelling with a pet
• Your booking contains more than 9 passengers with the same last name
• Your airport does not accept web check-in
• You’re traveling with a personal oxygen cylinder

WestJet Mobile App Check-in

You can check in with your mobile device through WestJet’s app—available for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices—from 24 hours to 60 minutes before departure. You can use the mobile app to:

• Check in for your flight.
• Add your WestJet Rewards, AAdvantage, or SkyMiles number to your booking.
• Choose an earlier flight. 
• Choose/upgrade your seat.
• Purchase excess baggage. 
• Download and save your electronic boarding pass.

Electronic Boarding Pass

If you’ve downloaded an Electronic Boarding Pass, you must present it at the airport on your mobile device. Printed copies of Electronic Boarding Passes will not be accepted, but you can receive a paper copy from a self-service kiosk or a WestJet agent. 

Remember to save your Electronic Boarding Pass on your smartphone after you check in with your mobile device. 

• You can add and access offline multiple Electronic Boarding Passes on Apple devices (iOS 10 and later versions). 
• You can save 1 Electronic Boarding Pass per passenger on Android devices.
• You’re not eligible to receive an Electronic Boarding Pass if you’re travelling with a lap infant/infant or a child. 

• If you did not download your Electronic Boarding Pass, you will need to check in again through your phone or at an airport kiosk. 
• If your airport does not accept E-Boarding Passes, obtain a printed copy from a WestJet agent. 
• An E-Boarding Pass cannot be forwarded, but WestJet can reissue it to a different email address.

Exceptions to Mobile App Check-in

You will need to check in at the airport if:

• You’re departing from Cuba or the Dominican Republic
• You require special assistance at the airport
• You’re travelling with a personal oxygen cylinder
• You’ve purchased an extra seat for yourself
• You’re travelling with a pet
• You’re an unaccompanied minor
• Your booking has more than 9 passengers with the same last name
• Your airport does not allow mobile check-ins

WestJet Kiosk Check-in 

If you have a confirmed reservation, you can check in at an airport kiosk (where available) from 24 hours to 45 minutes before departure if you’re flying within Canada and 60 minutes before departure for international/U.S. flights. 

When checking in for your WestJet flight at a kiosk, you can:

• Also check in for codeshare/interline flights if your first flight is WestJet operated.
• Add your WestJet Rewards, AAdvantage/SkyMiles number to your flight reservation.
• Select an earlier flight, subject to availability. 
• Select/upgrade your seat.
• Prepay for excess baggage. 
• Receive a printed copy of your boarding pass.
• Print your bag tags (select airports). 

WestJet Flight Check-in at Airport Counter

If you’re checking in for a domestic flight within Canada:

• You must reach the airport at least 120 minutes before departure.
• You must drop off your checked bags at least 90 minutes before departure. 
• You must have completed your check-in formalities at least 45 minutes before departure.
• You must reach the boarding gate at least 40 minutes before departure.
• You must have boarded your flight at least 10 minutes before departure (15 minutes if you’re on a Boeing 787 aircraft).

If you’re checking in for a U.S./international flight:

• You must reach the airport at least 150 minutes before departure.
• You must drop off your checked bags at least 90 minutes before departure. 
• You must have completed your check-in formalities at least 60 minutes before departure.
• You must reach the boarding gate at least 40 minutes before departure.
• You must have boarded your flight at least 10 minutes before departure (15 minutes for Boeing 787 aircraft).

Note

• Most airports accept checked bags starting 3 hours before departure. 
• Checked bags must be checked in before the check-in deadline. 
• If you’re travelling with a pet, allow an extra 30 minutes before your check-in deadline. 
• If you’re travelling with a pet as checked baggage, check in at least 90 minutes before departure. However, some airports may not check in pets more than 60 minutes before departure whereas U.S. airports will not check in pets more than 2 hours before departure. 
• If you’re travelling with overweight or oversized baggage, you must check in at least 30 minutes before your check-in deadline.
• If you’ll be requiring a wheelchair (your own or the airport’s), you should check in an extra 30 minutes before your check-in deadline.
• Unaccompanied minors must check in at least 90 minutes before departure. 
• You must reach the boarding gate at least 40 minutes before departure. 
• If you reach the boarding gate after the cut-off time, you may be denied entry. However, you may be eligible for a same-day change.
• Always print the excess baggage fee receipt to show at the bag drop counter.

Boarding Time: You must reach the boarding gate at least 40 minutes before departure for domestic and international flights. Boarding gates close 10 minutes before departure. If you miss the boarding deadline, you might miss your flight.

WestJet Check-in Times

What are WestJet’s check-in times for international and domestic flights?

You can check in online from 24 hours to 60 minutes before departure for domestic and international flights. If you plan to check in at the airport counter, you can check in: 

• From 3 hours to 45 minutes before departure for domestic flights within Canada. 
• From 3 hours to 60 minutes before departure for flights from/to the United States and other international destinations. 

If you’re carrying overweight/oversized baggage or require the use of a wheelchair, you should check in at least 30 minutes before your flight’s check-in deadline to complete the additional formalities in time. If you’re travelling with a pet, be sure to check in at least 2 hours before departure for a domestic flight and 2.5 hours before departure for an international flight. Unaccompanied minors should check in at the airport at least 1.5 hours before departure.

All passengers must be at the boarding gate at least 40 minutes before departure.

   WestJet’s airport counters open 3 hours before departure in all cities. WestJet recommends that you check in:
   1. 120 minutes before departure for domestic flights. 
   2. 150 minutes before departure for U.S./international flights.
