Korean Air flight check-in options 

If you’re travelling on a Korean Air flight, you can check in in any of the following ways:

  1. Web check in 
  2. Mobile app check in
  3. Automated check in 
  4. Airport kiosk check-in 
  5. Airport counter check-in 

On the Day of Departure

  1. Reach the airport terminal 
    1. Passengers with boarding passes
      1. If you’re travelling without baggage to check, proceed directly to the departure area with your boarding pass.
      2. If you have baggage to check, collect your boarding pass, drop off your baggage at the self-service bag drop or airport counter and proceed to the boarding area. 
    2. Passengers with exchange vouchers
      1. Collect your boarding pass at the bag drop counter. 
      2. Drop off your baggage and proceed to the boarding area.
    3. Passengers without boarding passes
      1. Check in at the airport counter.
      2. Collect your boarding pass.
  2. Go through immigration/security check
    1. Show your boarding pass to the security agent and go through the security checkpoint. 
    2. Show your passport and travel documents and go through immigration screening.
  3. Proceed for boarding 
    1. Present your boarding pass to the boarding gate staff and board the aircraft in the order announced.

Korean Air Check in Time

Korean Air recommends that you reach the airport at least 2 hours before departure for international flights and 60 minutes before departure for domestic flights. This will ensure you have enough time to check in comfortably and pass through security checkpoints.

  1. Online Check in Time 

You can check in online through the website:

  • For most international flights: 48 hours to 60 minutes before departure.
  • For domestic flights: 48 hours to 30 minutes before departure.

Exception. For flights to/from U.S. and Canada: 24 hours to 60 minutes before departure.

  1. Mobile app Check in Time 

You can check in with the mobile app:

  • For most international flights: 48 hours to 60 minutes before departure.
  • For domestic flights: 48 hours to 30 minutes before departure.

  1. Automated Check in Time

Passengers who request the automated check-in service will be automatically issued a boarding pass 24 hours before departure. 

  1. Airport Kiosk Check-in Time

You can check in at an airport kiosk:

  • For most international flights: Up to 60 minutes before departure.
  • For domestic flights: Up to 30 minutes before departure.

  2. Click on the tab marked Check-In

The following page will show up on your screen:

  1. Enter the following information:
    1. Your booking reference or ticket number
    2. Your departure date
    3. Your last, first, and middle name
  2. Click on the Reservation Inquiry button
    Your flight reservation details will appear
  3. Follow the prompts to select your flight and check in

During online check-in, you will also have the option to:

  • Select your seat.
  • Enter and/or modify your frequent flyer number.
  • Enter your passport details.
  • Check in for your return flight.
    (available only to First Class and Prestige Class passengers who are travelling on eligible itineraries within 48 hours).

Exceptions 

You will not be able to check in online but at the airport if: 

  • You’re flying on a codeshare flight operated by another airline. 
  • You’re travelling on a charter flight or another airline’s flight.
  • You’ve applied for a service that requires airport staff confirmation, such as the Unaccompanied Minor service, medical bed, etc.
  • You’re departing from Da lat, Guiyang, Urumqi, Mudanjiang, Huangshan, etc.
  • Your (discounted) ticket needs to be revalidated (i.e., your credit card must be verified at the airport).

Exchange Vouchers


You will be issued an exchange voucher which you will need to exchange for a boarding pass (after presenting your travel documents (ID Card, passport, ticket, etc.) if:

  • You’re travelling with an infant on international flights departing from Singapore.
  • You’re travelling with an under-12-year-old child on flights bound for Canada, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
  • You’ve requested additional services requiring airport confirmation, such as Passengers who apply for service requiring airport staff confirmation (wheelchair assistance, travelling with pets, etc.).
  • You require an entry visa to the country of destination. 
  • Your airport does not accept online check in.

Mobile Check-in at Korean Air

 How do I check in with the Korean Air mobile app 

You can check in with the mobile app for international flights from 48 hours to 60 minutes before departure and for domestic flights from 48 hours to 30 minutes before departure. However, if you’re checking in for a flight to/from the U.S. or Canada, you can check in from 24 hours to 60 minutes before departure.

To check in with the mobile app:

  • Open the app 
  • Click on the Check-in option 
  • Follow the prompts to check in and receive your boarding pass

Exceptions 

You will not be able to check in with the mobile app if you are: 

  • Travelling on a codeshare flight by another airline. 
  • Flying on a charter flight or another airline’s flight.
  • An unaccompanied minor or require a medical bed, or require a service that requires airport staff confirmation.
  • Departing from Da lat, Guiyang, Urumqi, Mudanjiang, Huangshan, etc.

Korean Air Automated Check-in 

How to use Korean Air’s automated check-in 

You can request Korean Air’s automated check-in service any time after purchasing your ticket till 48 hours before departure. After you’ve registered for the service, you will be automatically checked in and will receive your boarding pass 24 hours before departure. 

To use automated check-in:

  1. Go to KoreanAir.com
  2. Click on Find Trips 
  3. Go to Auto Check-in 
  4. Enter the passenger information 
  5. Use your boarding pass 

Note. If you have baggage to check, drop your bags at the self-service bag drop counter and proceed to the boarding area.

Korean Air Kiosk Check-in 

You can check in at an airport kiosk (where available) up to 60 minutes before departure for international flights and up to 30 minutes before departure for domestic flights. 

To check in at an airport kiosk, follow the steps below:

  1. Access your reservation via:
    1. Your passport
    2. Booking reference number
    3. E-ticket number
    4. Frequent flyer number
    5. QR code/barcode 
  1. Select the passenger(s) who will be checking in
    (up to 6 passengers are allowed)
  1. Confirm the passenger and flight details 
  1. Select or change your seat/seats 
  1. Scan each passenger’s passport by inserting it all the way into the slot so that it can be read properly.
  1. Enter the baggage information.
    1. Use the self-tagging service 
    2. Attach the tags issued to the baggage

Note. This option is currently available at the following airports: Incheon, Toronto, Vancouver, Brisbane, Auckland, and Singapore.

  1. Click the Finish button 

You will receive a copy of your boarding pass.

Korean Air Airport Counter Check in 

Korean Air recommends that you reach the airport at least: 

  • 2 hours before departure for an international flight.
  • 60 minutes before departure for a domestic flight. 

You can check in at an airport counter: 

  • Up to 60 minutes before departure for international flights. 
  • Up to 30 minutes before departure for domestic flights. 

After reaching the airport: 

  • You must present your travel documents (such as your passport/valid ID, visa, and flight ticket). In most cases, your passport must have at least a 6-month validity. 
  • You will receive your boarding pass. 
  • You can check in your luggage.
