IndiGo flight delay compensations are governed by the Passenger Charter of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, India. You can only claim flight delay compensation in select situations, such as certain types of flight cancellations and involuntary boarding denials. In most other cases, the maximum you can expect is free meals and refreshments or hotel accommodation (if necessary). Although IndiGo flies to several countries in the European Union, the flight delay compensation under E.U. 261 Regulation does not apply to the airline since it is not headquartered in the E.U.

Below is a snapshot of IndiGo Airlines flight delay compensation policy and the situations under which you can claim it.

  • If your flight is delayed by more than 2 hours or advanced by more than 1 hour, you can:
    • Claim a 100% refund, or

Frequently Asked Questions

The section below answers some of the most commonly asked questions on IndiGo Airlines flight delay compensation, so do check them out.

Does IndiGo Airlines flight delay compensation apply to flights landing in the E.U. (European Union)?

No, IndiGo Airlines flight delay compensation does not apply to flights landing at an airport in the European Union. This is so because the 2004 EU261 ruling requires that to be eligible for flight delay compensation, your flight should (among other things):
1. Depart from the European Union (E.U.), or
2. Land in the European Union in which case it must also be headquartered in the E.U.

How much is IndiGo Airlines delayed flight compensation?

IndiGo Airlines delayed flight compensation will depend on the duration of the flight delay, and why you’re claiming it—due to your flight being delayed, cancelled, or boarding denial, as explained below.
1. For normal flight delays, the maximum amount of compensation is limited to INR 10,000 or the basic one-way fare plus fuel charge, whichever is less, if the block time of a cancelled flight (total time taken from the departure gate to arrival) is more than 2 hours (and lower if the block time is less than 2 hours).
2. The delayed flight compensation for involuntary boarding denials is limited to INR 20,000 or 4x the one-way fare plus fuel charge (whichever is lower) if you’re offered an alternative flight more than 24 hours after your original flight’s scheduled departure time.
3. However, if you do not opt for the alternative flight provided to you, the delayed flight compensation will be equal to the full value of your ticket (as a refund) plus compensation equaling 4x times the basic one-way fare and fuel charge or INR 20,000, whichever is lower.

If the flight is originating from Turkey to India and is delayed by 12+ hours. Is it going to be compensated by Indigo. It is due to technical issue with Indigo and not weather related.
